Sam’s story is full of ups and downs. She is a determined mom. She wants the birth circumstances to be how she likes them. Some people with medical background make that very hard for her; others are helpful. And, of course, the birth system also plays a role in there, forbidding the midwife to do a home-birth.

Luckily, Sam, her midwife and her partner are all determined to make baby’s birth happen with as little intervention as possible. And, as Sam concludes: It did not go like she wanted, but it was still perfect.-

„Nur weg hier“ — Als Fluchttier bei der Geburt

Nein, in diesem Beitrag soll es nicht um Väter gehen, die sich im entscheidenden Moment fluchtartig in die Cafeteria verziehen.

Es geht um die werdende Mutter und um einen Urinstinkt, dem wir auch heute nur schwerlich entkommen können.

Lasst mich also eine Geschichte erzählen.

Von Rehen, Kaninchen, Pferden und Löwen

Stell dir vor, du bist ein Reh. Oder ein Kaninchen. Oder ein Pferd. Ein Fluchttier. Ein trächtiges Fluchttier, um genau zu sein.

Du merkst, dass die Geburt losgeht, und suchst dir deshalb einen sicheren Ort, an dem du deinen Nachwuchs ungestört zur Welt bringen kannst. Du hast diesen Ort gefunden, machst es dir gemütlich und legst los.

Klar, Geburten haben mit Blut und Schweiß und Fruchtwasser und ziemlichen vielen Körperflüssigkeiten zu tun. Aber das ist doch, so wie es ist, schon ekelig genug, sagen viele. Müssen wir da auch noch über die Möglichkeit reden (und schreiben), dass bei der Gebärenden „unten rum“ alles aufreißt?

Ja, wir sollten darüber reden. 🙂 Und zwar der Reihe nach. Also, los geht’s!

Bitte nicht stören

von

Immer wieder kommt es vor, dass Frauen, die während der Geburt lange (oder bis zum Ende) zu Hause sind, von den Nachbar*innen gehört werden.

Wenn du dich während der Geburt auf dich selber konzentrierst, in dich hineinspürst, auf den Wellen reitest, ist Lautstärke zweitrangig.

Wenn du nicht gerade weit weg von allen anderen menschlichen Lebewesen wohnst, werden deine Nachbar*innen und vielleicht auch Passant*innen dich hören können. Vielleicht hast du vorher mit ihnen über die Hausgeburt (oder ein langes zu-Hause-Bleiben vor der Fahrt ins Krankenhaus) gesprochen; in dem Fall können sie sich wohl denken, was los ist.

Aber wie gehst du damit um, wenn du die Leute um dich herum nicht eingeweiht hast oder befürchtest, dass sich Menschen unter deinem Fenster sammeln, um zuzuhören — entweder aus Neugierde, oder weil sie befürchten, dir wird etwas angetan?

About us… my husband and I consider ourselves pretty green, spiritual, vegan, earthy, karma believers and live our „law of attraction” lifestyle the best we can.

A pregnancy without problems

First baby, first pregnancy. A little bit about my pregnancy. I had an amazing pregnancy. I did feel the fatigue and crumminess between week 6-12. No appetite and just super blah, but not actually throwing up, just once! From month 3 onward I had no real signs of pregnancy, I felt 100% myself. It was amazing!

Right until our little guy was born, I didn’t have an ache, Braxton-hick or a hint of fatigue. I gained 20lbs total. I started my pregnancy in the dark about the choice of freebirth, or even midwives at that point.

I have found it quite difficult to write my birth story. Not because it was traumatic and I don’t want to re-live it; quite the contrary. I had a beautiful, amazing birth, and this is the reason I find it difficult to write. Because people don’t want to hear about it. It seems that, in our culture, it is fine and normal to relate negative stories of births that have not gone according to plan, but no one seems to be telling the stories of empowering, uplifting births that were what the mother was hoping and believing for.
I don’t write this to skite or because I think I am better than anyone else. I don’t write this to make anyone feel badly about their own experience. I write this because everyone has a birth story, every birth story is beautiful and unique, and mine happens to be a very positive story that I believe deserves to be told.
My Braxton Hicks contractions had been getting stronger over the last few weeks of the pregnancy — about a week before the birth I thought I was in labour for sure. I even called the midwife, filled the pool and got the camembert out to celebrate! Well the contractions stopped before bedtime. I had to buy more camembert.

A Witness for the start

I was awoken to my waters leaking at 4.45am, and lay in bed for a couple of hours as they continued to trickle. I then got up and my husband took the day off work and ran some errands as I tidied around. At 11.05am they full on broke, Hollywood style! (Just as a Jehovahs Witness knocked on the door! My husband was trying his best to politely get rid of her as fast as he could as I’m stood in the hallway behind him, trousers round my ankles with fluid still pouring down and pooling all around me- ðŸ˜‚)

Samstag, 16.12.2005 – mein Mann und ich saßen abends um 23 Uhr beim Fernsehen — und dann hat sich Vanessa mit einer Schmierblutung angekündigt.

Da ja meine vorhergehenden Geburten relativ schnell von statten gingen, fuhren wir ins Krankenhaus.

Dort war natürlich alles ruhig. Die Krankenschwester war eine ganz Liebe. Nach der Erstuntersuchung behielt sie mich sicherheitshalber im Kreißzimmer.

Meine Wehen spürte ich wieder mal Richtung Po — ich kannte nicht das Gefühl eines „harten“ Bauchs durch die Wehen.
